How to Do NYSC Monthly and Final LGA Clearance (2026 Guide)
NYSC clearance is compulsory for every serving corps member.
Without completing your monthly clearance, you will not receive your federal allowance.
This guide explains NYSC monthly LGA clearance process, how to check clearance status on the portal, final clearance procedure, and what happens if you miss clearance.
What is NYSC Monthly Clearance?
Monthly clearance is a verification exercise conducted at your Local Government Area (LGA) secretariat.
Its purpose is to confirm that you are still serving at your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), you have not absconded, and you are active in your service year.
Monthly clearance is required before allowance is paid.
It usually starts on the 1st of every month and ends on the 10th of the month. Excludes weekends and public holidays.
The exact schedule is uploaded to your NYSC dashboard.
Note that if your Local Government Inspector (LGI) is attending orientation camp for a new batch, clearance dates may be adjusted.
NYSC Portal LGA Clearance Requirements
Before going for clearance, ensure you have:
- NYSC uniform (6/7 or 7/7 as required)
- Clearance slip signed by your PPA
- Valid NYSC ID card
- CDS attendance form
Some LGIs schedule specific days for different batches. Stay informed through your colleagues.
How to Check NYSC Monthly Clearance Status Online
To confirm your clearance status:
- Visit the official NYSC portal.
- Log in using your email and password.
- Click on “LGA Clearance.”
- Check your monthly status.
Your status will show either present or absent. Your clearance status should update after successful biometric verification. However, network delays may affect visibility temporarily.
What If Your Clearance Status Shows “Absent”?
If you cleared but your status shows “Absent”:
- Wait for some hours.
- Visit your LGI office immediately.
- Report the issue.
- Confirm that your biometric attendance was properly captured.
Early correction prevents allowance issues.
NYSC Final Clearance Process
Final clearance is done at the end of your service year before collecting your NYSC certificate.
Here are the steps to do yours:
- Obtain a final clearance letter from your PPA. It must be on letterhead, signed and stamped.
- Attach your NYSC ID card.
- Submit the document to your LGI for verification.
- Obtain clearance from your CDS coordinator.
- Complete final biometric verification.
- Ensure your final clearance carries required signatures and stamps.
You may need between five (5) to seven (7) signatures/stamps.
After final biometrics, you will be eligible to collect your NYSC certificate.
What Happens If You Miss Monthly Clearance?
Missing clearance has consequences.
If you miss one month, no allowance for that month.
Miss clearance multiple times, you’ll get a possible extension of service year.
If you must miss clearance, inform your LGI and provide valid documentation (medical report, etc.).
Always communicate officially to avoid penalties.
Special Note for Relocated Corps Members
If you relocated, wait until your state code updates, obtain a new PPA, and complete documentation before clearance.
Do not attempt clearance until your relocation is fully processed on the portal.
Final Words
NYSC clearance is not optional.
To avoid allowance delay, extension of service, and portal issues always attend your monthly clearance within the approved window.
